Accessibility

Common Skills is built to be used by school staff on a laptop and by students and families on a phone. Both have to work.

Our approach, and how to tell us when it fails

What we aim for. We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2, level AA.

What that means in practice on this site:

  • Colour is never the only thing carrying meaning. Where a status matters, it is shown as a shape and a word as well as a colour.
  • Every page works at larger text sizes without anything clipping or the page scrolling sideways.
  • The site follows your device’s light or dark setting.
  • Everything can be reached with a keyboard, and what has focus is always visible.
  • Movement is short and purposeful, and respects your device’s reduced-motion setting.

Where we know we fall short. This is a new site and we are still testing it. If something does not work for you, we would rather hear about it than not.

Telling us. Email [email protected]. Say what page you were on, what you were trying to do, and what happened. If you use a screen reader or another assistive tool, telling us which one helps us reproduce the problem. We reply within two working days.
